Gnomefiles just pointed me to a small python script that will generate a wallpaper with your local weather forecast. The script is named “weather wallpaper” and I have just submitted a gentoo ebuild for it.
On my system it works fine, there is just one drawback: your city needs a 4-letter NOAA weather code, numeric codes are not supported.
