Webcam not working.. but soon
Recently I bought a cheap webcam at Tchibo (a large retailer in Germany) in the hope that it would work on Linux. Last year right before christmas they offered a webcam for 12,99 Euro (17 USD) and it works fine under linux with the spca5xx driver. As the offer this year has just the same look and price I was hoping to get the same hardware. I didn’t. Last year the cam had a usb id of 0×093a:0×248, this year it is a newer model with the id 0×093a:0×2600 and this one is not supported.
Yesterday I tried the cam under windows doing some skype video conferencing and the picture was really good, so I wanted to get this thing running under linux even more. While I was already planning to buy a second one and donate it to the developers of the spca5xx oder gspca driver I found that Thomas Kaiser and some others are already working on a driver for the PAC7311 chipset quite succesfully (at least the jpeg stream has been decoded, in my understanding that seemed to be the main problem).
Thanks for the good work, I can’t wait to see the camera work with ekiga!

Really good work. Some friends gave this webcam to me as a present (they would never imagine that linux does not support this cam). And now I would really like to get it work. It seems to be very difficult, so I hope the work of Thomas Kaiser will be succesfull.
It would be really great, because one of those friends nearly hates Linux and never gives up explaining how great Windows works…
