Software.
Recently I stumbled over a german weblog that had a great surch function: you would simply type a term into the search box and after a second or so the search button would change to a small spinner and then the page gets reloaded to a search result. Pretty web 2.0 fancy ajax
I haven’t found the time to install the plugin here but at least I have found out what it is called and where it is from: Wordpress Live Search Plugin

Misc Stuff.
Long time ago I have added the feed for chengfu.net to feedburner. Feedburner converts the feed to all kinds of formats to fit for almost any newsreader and provides neat statistics about the number of accesses. Yet I have never managed to change my template to reflect the new feed url. Today I made a new attempt and discovered the great Feedburner Replacement Plugin that does all this with just a few clicks. Download the zipfile, extract, upload to webspace, activate in wordpress, cut’n paste feedburner url and you are done.
Great, can’t wait to see some stats about the feed usage

Sponsored Reviews.
Please note: This is a sponsored review
On my daily visit to problogger.net I learnt about the start of reviewme.com, a service where you can earn money by posting reviews of vertain services or websites.
During the last months I have been quite curious about the blogging community and professional blogging and so I decided to give it a try and sign on. Signing up is very easy, I needed to provide only some very basic details like username, desired password and email address to get an account. Inside the account the first step is to add a blog which requires the blogname, url, feed url and a short description. It says that you will have to wait for the blog being accepted but my application was accepted immediately, perhaps this works by checking pagerank or technorati or something.
reviewme.com will set a price your postings are worth which ranges somewhere between $30 and $200 which means a payout of $10 to $100 for each post because reviewme.com keeps 50% for itself. I think that is a lot of money they are tinking just for providing the platform and technology! Now you can either wait for the first advertiser asking you to review his product or write a review of reviewme.com: To push the start of the platform they are asking every member to write a review.
To get to know how the process of reviewing works I accepted this offer and am now writing this review. After accepting you have 48 hours to produce a review with at least 200 words and submit the post url to reviewme.com. The post is not required to be positive, if someone asks you to review a bad service it’s his own fault
And of course if you don’t like to review something you don’t have to - each offer has to be accepted manually, there is no need to write anything.
Reviewme.com is not really a new idea but just the newest incarnation of the pay-per-post idea. In the past there have been some services that did not pay out correctly or went bankrupt quite fast and I hope that reviewme.com does a better job of attracting advertisers, paying out bloggers and staying alive.
I find the idea of getting money for product or website reviews quite intriguing and a good way to earn money as long as you are allowed to be critical. And it’s also a good thing that reviewme requires all members to clearly mark such reviews as “sponsored” or “paid”. To make this clear for chengfu.net I will not only mark future sponsored posts with an extra notice but also add them to the “Sponsored Reviews” category.

Search Engines.
Slowly all Google services are moving to Google accounts. Right now Blogger is switching over: Beginning today the new Beta version (why Beta? has blogger been alpha before?) is advertised in the Blogger dashboard and blogs can be converted with just a few clicks - and logging into an existing or opening a new Google account.
So now there is one more Google project connected to all the other Google services - sometime you wonder if it is good to put so much information about yourself (mail, calendar, documents) into the hands of one company.

When logging into Gmail this morning I realized a small message on the top saying “Five new features”. I didn’t expect to much, because mostly those new features aren’t very useful to me. But this time they added something I would love to see in my regulare evolution client: If you are reading a message or responding to a message and meanwhile another message for this thread arrives, a small window will pop up and inform about the new message. With the click of a button you can then update the current view.
You can find an overview of all five new features in the Gmail help. By the way: Gmail has been made available to everyone, so you do not need to look for someone sending you an invitation if you want to signup now.
